Intensive

Erin Floyd-Smith as Doctor in Intensive — John Walcutt (2014)

Synopsis

This small student project directed by guest artist John Walcutt (Little Miss Sunshine, Titanic) features the relationship between a lonely, dying patient and their doctor. The doctor visits her patient’s room shortly after receiving his test results, which are not good.

Impressions

Working with John Walcutt was an eye opening experience. He taught me how to act for the camera, an extraordinarily different experience from stage acting. Everything an actor does is so isolated, personal, and honest. The camera sees every lie and this film had to be entirely genuine. It was an emotionally wrenching scene, allowing me to connect with it in a very personal way. John guided me through different exercises to reach the kind of deep emotion needed for this film and I brought in a lot of personal experience and memory. Unfortunately the footage of this project was lost, which is devastating because it is some of my best film work.
